Pigeon Lake Watershed Association was the 2022 McIntosh Bulrush Award recipients.  Their project was titled:  Caring for the Lake Together.
In 2021, the Pigeon Lake Watershed Association branded our stewardship activities as Caring for the lake together. This branded stewardship program is designed so PLWA can coordinate with its partners in the community, including the 12 municipalities around Pigeon Lake, to preserve and protect the health of Pigeon Lake and its watershed. PLWA engages residents, businesses, visitors to the lake and all levels of government to promote stewardship of the lake, shoreline, & watershed, reduce nutrients loading, rejuvenate the shoreline, prevent the spread of invasive species, expand our knowledge, explore lake science, and work with all levels of government.
In 2021, the Caring for the Lake stewardship program resulted in many successes for the health of the lake, its watershed, and the residents of the 10 Summer Villages around Pigeon Lake.
Working together:
● Volunteers planted more than 3100 plants in the watershed as part of the Caring for the Lake Together program, in
addition to 1100 more trees at Bar-V-Nok Ukrainian Orthodox Camp in partnership with AWES
● A demonstration clean runoff garden was constructed at the Mulhurst Bay playground.

ASVA Lifetime Membership Nomination - Dennis Evans
Throughout his career, Dennis Evans has worked collaboratively with Val Quentin Council and
our regional colleagues to help maintain healthy working relationships with our partners in
neighboring municipalities in Lac Ste Anne County.
Dennis has always been a strong listener, taking a very balanced approach to negotiation and
problem solving when challenging or sensitive situations presented. With his guidance and
leadership, a strong foundation has been set for Council to continue the work with our regional
partners on ICF Planning, Contractual obligations, and responding to citizen concerns. He has
kept Council informed of changing legislative requirements and shared updates as they
become available.
Annual Budgets have been shared and reviewed line by line to ensure Council is well informed
and funds allocated align with the adopted budget. Dennis has taken the lead on several grants in order to aid with completion of the following projects in the Summer Village of Val Quentin including road paving, Bob’s Bridge, walking trail, storm water retention ditch, gazebo, ditches and culvert modernization, basketball court.
Dennis professionally represented the Summer Village of Val Quentin when liaising with all levels of government, and while attending meetings outside the municipality on behalf of Council. He set the expectation for Council Members to deliver the same level of
professionalism.  During his career, Dennis was actively involved with ASVA, Lac Ste Anne Counties East, Tri Village Sewer Commission, CAO for Birch Cove, CAO for Ross Haven.  Dennis has helped to improve the quality of life for the residents and visitors to the Summer Village of Val Quentin.
