Pigeon Lake Watershed Association was the 2022 McIntosh Bulrush Award recipients. Their project was titled: Caring for the Lake Together.
In 2021, the Pigeon Lake Watershed Association branded our stewardship activities as Caring for the lake together. This branded stewardship program is designed so PLWA can coordinate with its partners in the community, including the 12 municipalities around Pigeon Lake, to preserve and protect the health of Pigeon Lake and its watershed. PLWA engages residents, businesses, visitors to the lake and all levels of government to promote stewardship of the lake, shoreline, & watershed, reduce nutrients loading, rejuvenate the shoreline, prevent the spread of invasive species, expand our knowledge, explore lake science, and work with all levels of government.
In 2021, the Caring for the Lake stewardship program resulted in many successes for the health of the lake, its watershed, and the residents of the 10 Summer Villages around Pigeon Lake.
Working together:
● Volunteers planted more than 3100 plants in the watershed as part of the Caring for the Lake Together program, in
addition to 1100 more trees at Bar-V-Nok Ukrainian Orthodox Camp in partnership with AWES
● A demonstration clean runoff garden was constructed at the Mulhurst Bay playground.
